How does Goods and Service Tax (GST) work ?
Last updated on April 20, 2026
In India, Spare Space is required to collect and remit Goods and Services Tax (GST) on its service fees and certain host payouts, depending on the host’s registration status.
For Individual (Non-GST Registered) Hosts
If you do not have a GST registration number, Spare Space will:
Collect and deduct the applicable GST from your total payout.
Remit the tax directly to the government on your behalf. You’ll receive a tax invoice showing the GST amount deducted and paid.
For GST-Registered Hosts
If you have a valid GST registration number: Spare Space will collect GST from the guest and remit it to you along with your payout. You are responsible for reporting and remitting GST as per your business filing requirements.
GST on Service Fees
Spare Space also charges GST on its service fees, which is automatically calculated and reflected in your invoice. Invoices for GST are available to download from your dashboard and are also emailed to you after every successful booking.
