How does Goods and Services Tax (GST) work?
Last updated on April 2, 2026
In India, Spare Space collects and remits Goods and Services Tax (GST) as required under local tax regulations. GST is an indirect tax applied to the supply of goods and services, including booking and service fees on the Spare Space platform.
GST is charged at the time of payment and is calculated based on the total guest processing fee and booking amount for each reservation.
If hosts are GST-registered, their per-hour prices listed on Spare Space are exclusive of GST. Spare Space collects GST on behalf of these hosts and remits it directly to them as part of the payment process.
All GST collected or refunded by Spare Space can be viewed in your invoice or payment summary for each booking.
Spare Space generates an invoice for every taxable booking, which can be downloaded from your registered email or under your My Bookings tab on the platform.
